After World War I Alfa Romeo began planning the production of a car which would comply with the Grand Prix engine capacity limit - 3 litres. This became known as the RL and when production commenced in 1923, two models were available, a touring chassis RL Normale and the RL Sport (RLS) which featured the larger engine, twin carburetors and a shorter chassis. Improvements continued to be made to the cars and in the September, 1923 the 3rd series cars were fitted with front wheel brakes. |
