  1906 Cadillac, Open Tourer:

Cadillac, Open Tourer, c.1906, USA,
single cylinder water cooled engine, horizontally mounted, 10hp

Although the first cars were produced in 1902, it was not until 1906 that the famous Cadillac coat of arms was registered. This coincided with the year of manufacture of this 'Victoria' or 'tulip bodied' model.
Renowned for its innovation in the automotive industry, Cadillac was the first to introduce the assembly line method of production (1902). Other technical milestones included: the standardisation of manufacturing methods enabling the use of interchangeable parts; the first practical and complete automotive electrical system; dynamically balanced crankshafts; four wheel brakes; chromium plating; synchromesh gear change and the world's first production V16 which was unveiled in 1930.
