Clement Tourer, 1902, France
2 cylinder, 1300cc, 8hp
The Clement Tourer pictured is the last car built on a wooden chassis, and is believed to be the only complete Clement in the world today
It was manufactured at the Levallois-Perret factory established by Frenchman, Adolphe Clement, and was imported as one of two such cars for the Victorian Governor, Sir Reginald Talbot, in 1903.
The vehicle was stored away in 1909 and did not reappear until 1955, when it was purchased by Bern Cutherbertson of Tasmania. After it's acquisition by the York Motor Museum in 1979, the Clement was prepared by the Museum's workshop for the 1980 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. As Australia's sole entry, it joined 320 of the world's finest veterans in this commemorative rally. Driven by Peter and Robin Briggs, this car made the 100km journey in about 6 hours, finishing in the top third of the field.
